When Nasser Munjee, MD of IDFC bank and now the chairman of DCB bank and his Wife Subur Munjee decided to settle in Goa, they bought an Old dilapidated Goan house. Their brief was simple, give us a great home. What followed was an extensive research of old homes, their details, their language and textures which took 9 months and the painstaking restoration took six.
Although everything was planned in great detail and not a brick was laid until the complete plan was in place, perhaps a little more thought should have been given to storage and lighting. It was our first own house and a bit of a labour of love. Given that, we were very lucky to find Rahul to work with, with whom we were aesthetically totally in sync. We also happen to agree on the principles with which we would build the house. The relationship between Rahul and us was amicable and enjoyable, even dissent was enjoyable! We ended up not just with a beautiful house that we love living in but a lasting and close friendship. If I were ever to build a house again, I would do it with no other than with Rahul.
